It is a competitive world out there in media relations land. As we all know, the media industry has been significantly disrupted.
So what are they keys to generating consistent positive media coverage for an institution? How can academics and thought leaders best prepare for interviews? What is the role of the media relations professional in the process? What about generating coverage internationally?
My guest Caleb Hulme-Moir, founder of Mana Communications and the former public relations director at Cass Business School in London, addresses these questions in episode 2 of FIR on Higher Education with Kevin Anselmo. Over a six-year period, Cass went from having no share of the British media voice to generating significant positive media coverage in print and broadcast, both in the UK and internationally. As part of our main interview feature, Caleb discusses how Cass was able to do this.
In our short opening news and tips section, I discuss how an online course led a professor to an appearance on NBC’s Meet the Press and why a creative holiday greeting video from an institution generated over 54,000 YouTube views.
We are delighted to welcome Harry Hawk as a contributor to the show, reporting on technology within higher education. An adjunct professor at Cuny’s New York City School of Technology, Harry’s first report provides an informative overview of MOOCs.
Hope you enjoy the show!
